We never know the love of our parents for us till we have become parents
Yesterday I was watching the movie "Father of a bride".I think its the first part, starring Steve Martin. He is the father of the bride and how marriage preparations goes on etc is told from his view.I would have passed it off as an usual family drama, if I wasnot a bride-to-be.A lot of talks goes on about how a bride or groomfeels about their D-day and how they feel butterflies in their stomach,pre-marital glitters and all those things...but less is said about what goes through a parent's mindduring this time period. One thinks his/her parents are too happy and a little bit nervous of arranging the whole thing.Even I was the same, until yesterday..I didnt knew what was going through themind of my mom and dad. They are so happy and excited specially because this isthe first wedding in our home. And a little bit tensed thinking whetherthe entire function and everything is gonna be fine...This much is what I knew. But today after hearing what goes through the mind of a "Father of the bride"I can underrstand all the feelings and emotions they are going through. Then I understood how big is that dream which they dream right from the conception of theirchild...Steve Martin recalls how his daughter has grown through the years, just infront of his eyes. That time I found myself visualizing how I had grown up to be an individual, right from my KG days...and then I suddenly missed my parents.I felt for the first time that I had sometimes failed to thank them for being such wonderful mom and dad they are. That sometimes I did take them for granted...I just wanted to call them up and say"I love you and am grateful to God for giving you to me".Since it was 12 in the mdinight I didnt call them up, they will think am crazy.Hats off to all those wonderful parents out there,If not for you ,we wouldnt have achieved what is ours today.
A trip to Nandi hills
It has been about 3months I reached Bangalore and haven’t visited any place still!!! My roomie was also feeling so bad that she too didn’t visit any places in Bangalore. So finally we zeroed down on Nandi hills after reading many blogs and travelogues . Finally the 3 of us set out on a Sunday morning. Taking a cab was expensive so we thought of catching a bus from Majestic . Thank God that now a days we get every information from internet. I wonder how people used to live before all these technologies!!! They are to be praised ;)From one of the blogs we came to know that there is a bus at 8.30 in the morning …so we decided to start from our home at around 7AM. Me and Jeena (my roomie) were waiting for Jessan(our friend) near the silk board flyover when that happened…A crow took his/her revenge on me(why me??? Still wondering)and gave me that nice drop of its shit on my stole. Luckily it was on one end so with the mineral water we were carrying I washed it off and tied it on window side of the auto….So by the time we reached bus stand it had dried up;)We didn’t knew from which platform we had to catch the bus, finally when we finished our search and reached PF 12 it was almost 8.30 and there was no time for break fast.So we got into the bus and took a seat in the middle. Journey to Nandi hills was exciting (at least for me, because after sometime both of them dozed off to sleep). Finally by 10.30 or so we reached there. We have to take an entry ticket of 3Rs each and if you are coming by private vehicle or cabs then parking fee also has to be paid. We started exploring the place. We had no idea of what all things were there and where we should start….We started to climb up the hill munching on biscuits and chocolate also clicking pics . The view from the top was wonderful. We thought of taking some rest and sat down on one of the rocks. It was so windy there . I had pinned a polythene cover on my backpack in which we put all the biscuit and chocolate wraps so that we wont litter the place. Suddenly I felt that the packet is becoming heavy and I am being pulled to back. Goshhh!!!!! A monkey was holding on to the cover and pulling it trying to get the cover so that it can have the biscuits inside it…(God!! It got so attracted by the wrappers!!!) I gave out a wild yeeeekkk and everyone around us were staring at us.Enough of excitement!!! So we planned to walk on. There was a children’s park , forgetting conveniently about our age we played on all the things over there, swings, see-saw ,sliders ,ladders……….We really had a mast time and by noon we were so tired and decided to have lunch. Once you reach the top of hills there are a few restaurants. We had our lunch from a Park View restaurant or something, the food was decent. After lunch we started our climb down licking on ice-cream. There was a bus to Majestic at around 3.30 PM as per the information in a blog . We waited ,waited and waited….Its 4.00 and still no sign of bus. Finally a bus came and suddenly from no where there was a huge crowd in front of the door pushing and pulling to get inside. Somehow I find it easy to go through small gaps in between and so I got into the bus and reserved a seat for the 3 of us….With a smile of triumph Jessan said to conductor “3 tickets to Majestic”. “Sorry, this doesn’t go to Majestic”. God!!! In that excitement to get into the bus somehow we had completely forgotten to ask where the bus is going to..What now? All the pushing and pulling has gone waste. Thus we took tickets to some bus station (sorry I forgot the name) and from there got another bus to Majestic. Ha…Thus the return journey was horrible….But the day was fun , we really enjoyed itJ-Ami
My engagement Day
The ‘muhurtham’ was said to be at 10.30AM and I was all ready by 8AMAnd the worst thing was I was not supposed to go downstairs. The time was ticking away and still the groom and party was not there still….finally at 12PM we received a call from his uncle saying that they have reached near our home .And then a sudden restlessness took over the people in my home, and every one were starting towards the gate and main door. After the long wait they arrived , and still I was waiting in my room for someone to call me. My mom’s sister and two of my friends were giving me company and we were talking and laughing out..Once in two minutes someone will come from down stairs and shoo us into silence Finally the wait got over and I was asked to go down. That time I was a little nervous because entire eyes were on me, that time I made sure in mind that never will I eagerly wait for the bride to enter the hall and gaze at her when I go for other marriages. All the other functions like prayer and exchange of horoscopes were over so what was remaining was Ring Exchange. I was all the more tensed thinking about my saree….I was never comfortable in wearing one so I opted always something other than saree for functions.(Which I really regret now, I think by 20 or so girls should do some practice wearing saree;)) . I was nervous thinking what will I do if my saree comes out when I sit down on the mandap!!!!Luckily nothing happened when I sat down…so far cool and well. Then he put the ring on my finger and I was given ring to put on his. When I was about to put it, he showed me his hand with the ring finger folded. I was so smart that I thought the ring was tight for his ring finger so he needs me to put it on his middle finger. And so seriously I was going to put it, and all the hands from around were coming to hold my hand and stop me from doing that…..I looked at them in surprise (What??!!! Finally they don’t want me to put ring on his??!!) Then he said me “If you wanna put ring, unfold my ring finger and do it.”Ha!! It was then I understood he was playing pranks….everyone on hearing this bursted out laughing and you know? that is the pic which everyone loves the most, because all look very happy and excited in the photo...
